In-Brief

1. 60 predictions made about major 2021 US and worldwide events.
2. The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 passes on a straight party-line vote in both houses with no Republican support. President Biden signs it into law.
3. More progress on winning the war against Covid-19. We are near herd immunity.
4. President Biden’s approval rating in the Rasmussen Poll is 51% and his disapproval rating is at 47%.
5. NY Governor Cuomo is in deep trouble for withholding Covid nursing home death data from NY and federal agencies and because at least seven women have accused him of sexual harassment or seeking sex. He is unlikely to survive politically.
6. Vaccinations against Covid, with vaccines from both Pfizer and Moderna, have reached about 100 million doses. There have been very few serious reactions to the vaccines. A new J&J vaccine was approved by the US. There is increasing evidence that the worst of the pandemic in the US will be over by mid-spring.
7. The US economy began a strong recovery in June. The huge 3^rd quarter GDP gain shows the recovery is V-shaped. That recovery extended into the 4^th quarter as the latest data show, and the initial GDP estimates for the 1^st quarter of 2021 look strong. The new stimulus package will speed up the economy further.
