In-Brief

1. The hypocrisy of MLB pulling the All-Star game from Atlanta because of Georgia’s new voting laws is off-the-charts. President Biden pushed that move even though many states have more restrictive election laws. Watch for a serious and long-term backlash to this move.
2. President Biden proposes a $2.3T “infrastructure” bill that is more of a social-welfare bill than an infrastructure bill. It will not pass in its current form and may not pass at all.
3. More progress on winning the war against Covid-19. We are near or at herd immunity. About 75% of Americans now have Covid-19 antibodies in our bodies which resist the disease.
4. President Biden’s overall approval rating in the Rasmussen Poll is 48% and his disapproval rating is at 50%. He has 31% strong approval and 41% strong disapproval – a minus 10 score.
5. Vaccinations against Covid have reached over 160 million doses administered. There is increasing evidence that the worst of the pandemic in the US will be over by mid-spring, about a month from now. Most of the rest of the world is still having serious and mounting problems, with rising cases and deaths.
6. The US economy began a strong recovery last June. The huge 3^rd quarter GDP gain shows the recovery is V-shaped. The initial GDP estimates for the 1^st quarter of 2021 look strong. The new stimulus package, passed several weeks ago, will speed up the economy further.
